Y5&6 Basketball County Finals

Monday 15th July

The Y5&6 Basketball County Finals finally took place this week at Archbishop Beck High School after it was postponed back in March. The best teams from around Merseyside battled it out for gold medals in some really exciting 12 minute matches. Our boys played brilliantly together as a team and displayed so much energy when on court. The boys progressed through to the semi final stages, before narrowly missing out on a final spot by one basket. Despite the disappointment, the boys gave their all in the 3rd/4th place play off and were more than satisfied with their win ti finish in 3rd place in the County! Well done, everyone!!

The first half saw Booker take the lead from the spot, before another penalty decision brought the game level. It was Booker that managed a second goal with only 10 minutes to go, before they sealed victory with a third in stoppage time. It was a great effort from our boys, but wasn't meant to be. Boys' Broadgreen League Match

Monday 17th June

It was a very important league fixture against our closest rivals Bishop Eton this week. With the end of the season just around the corner, both teams needed all three points to go to the top of the table. We got off to a slow start finding ourselves 3-0 down after 15 minutes. This turned out to be too big of a climb for the boys with the end result 4-2 to Bishop Eton. A really disappointing result for the boys who are now looking to put the result behind them and move on to the next game.

Y5&6 Netball Competition

Monday 17th June

On Monday, 22 Year 6's entered a netball competition at Wavertree. We had three teams and there were two leagues. All of our teams played 7 games. Team B unfortunately lost 2-1 in the final. They should be in the City Finals but we will be having fun at PGL so they can't attend.

Premier League Primary Stars Finals

Tuesday 21st May
After qualifying some months ago to represent Everton Football Club in the Premier League Primary Stars National
Finals, the long-awaited day finally arrived and our boys got to play at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium.
On Monday, with great excitement, the team boarded EFC’s first team coach and travelled down in style for an
overnight hotel stay, ready for a very early morning start for the tournament itself. At the hotel, they enjoyed a lovely
meal and some downtime in the hotel pool and were presented with their EFC personalised kits and jackets to wear
on the day.
On match day, the team, parents and staff again boarded EFC’s luxury coach to travel to Molineux Stadium and meet
the other teams from all around the country who had qualified to represent their local Premier League Clubs. The 40
teams competing on the day (20 boys’/mixed and 20 girls’ teams) had progressed to this point from more than 1600
teams with 14 500 children – just to have qualified to be there was an impressive and awe-inspiring achievement!
The standard of competition was really high, with the official Premier League referees seen at times applauding
particular impressive play by some of the best young players the entire country has to offer. The children were also
given the opportunity to see and be photographed with the Premier League Trophy.
Our boys were up against four really strong teams in the group stages, facing representatives of Wolverhamptom
Wanderers, Fulham, Burnley and Newcastle United. Unfortunately, we didn’t progress to the semi-finals; however, the
boys enjoyed watching the final games and thoroughly applauded the eventual winners, Brighton & Hove Albion.
Throughout the day, the four Premier League referees were scoring each team out of 10 in each game for ‘fair play’

and teams were advised at the beginning of the day that these scores would be collated and, in the event of a tie-
break on points and goal difference, would be used as a decider to progress beyond group stages. Whilst this didn’t

eventually occur, we were delighted and proud when, at the end of day presentations, our boys, representing EFC,
were declared the overall winners of the ‘Fair Play Award’, receiving a beautiful trophy and individual goodie bags.
Congratulations boys; we are incredibly proud of you!
Thank you to parents who rearranged their schedules to ensure they could travel and stay with the boys and to all
who joined us on the day to support.
The journey came to an end on Friday, when the boys were presented with their Premier League Finalists’ medals
and goodie bags, in collective worship, and the entire school shared their experience through photographs and a
recount by Mr Hawthorne. Well done, everybody; a fantastic end to another incredible season!

Our two Table Tennis teams competed in the City Finals following their qualification before the Christmas break. The teams played brilliantly, with Childwall A winning all of their group matches to progress to the semi-finals and Childwall B finishing in joint second place. Unfortunately, Childwall B didn't quite make it to the semi-finals due to the 'sets won' rule. Childwall A went on to win both their semi-final and final match and were crowned CITY CHAMPIONS! A great result for the team who have brought back our first trophy of 2019; well done to all of you. Childwall A will now compete in the Merseyside County Finals in March; good luck!
