The level of competition was really high and after making the perfect start in the group, winning all three matches, we went qualified for the quarter finals as the highest scoring team. The quarter final didn't go ahead as planned as we didn't seem to find the form we were playing at in the group stages and fell way too short on points. A fantastic achievement nevertheless, the team are now looking forward to the Robins Shield Final.

U11 Boys’ Liverpool Cup 7 a-side Finals

21st June 2018

It was the U11 Boys' Liverpool Cup 7 a-side Finals at The Liverpool Academy this week, which was the final match in an incredible footballing season. With 4 trophies won already this year, the boys were looking for the fifth. They played against Booker Avenue in the semi final but unfortunately didn't make it through. Nevertheless the children remained in high spirits as they looked back at their fantastic season and were congratulated by Liverpool Legend, David Fairclough, who handed them a Liverpool goody bag! Not the end of the season the children were hoping for, but we are so proud of their achievements throughout the year, well done!

12th June 2018

Our cricket team took part in the LSSP district competition at Sefton CC this week. The team won their first 4 games comfortably and advanced to the semi finals against St Christopher's. Unfortunately, St Christophers took too much of a big lead for us to catch and we lost the game in the end. Nevertheless, the team has reached the City Finals next week, good job boys!

Y5/6 Netball Competition

11th June 2018

Our Y6 took part in the LSSP High 5 Netball Tournament. To choose a team from all the brilliant netballers who come to netball club was really difficult. We gave it our best shot winning two and losing two, unfortunately not enough to get through to the final. Well done netballers.

Premier League Primary Stars National Finals

23rd May 2018

The much anticipated Premier League Primary Stars National Finals had arrived this week following the girls' qualification back in March to represent Liverpool Football Club.

Since gaining qualification, the team have had lots of privileges including hospitality at the LFC Legends match, given their own personalised LFC kit and a tour around Anfield!

Prior to match-day, the girls were treated like genuine Premier League stars, travelling down to Leicester on the corporate team bus, having an overnight hotel stay and even enjoying some down time in the swimming pool.

On match-day, all qualifying teams made their way to this year’s venue, The King Power Stadium. After a huge 1,600 school entries it was down to the last 20 boys' and girls' teams to represent their respective clubs in a 4 group knock out tournament. The format of the tournament meant there was only room for the winner of each group to progress through to the semi finals.

The standard of competition was really high, with the official Premier League referees seen at times applauding particular impressive play by some of the best players the entire country has to offer. The children were also given the opportunity to see the Premier League Trophy and learn about the history behind the design and the 6 previous club winners.

Our girls were up against 4 really good teams in the group stages, facing West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and Crystal Palace. Two draws in the group stages wasn't enough to see the girls progress through to the semi finals, but they were absolutely faultless in their efforts and desire and performed really well which made everyone really proud of them all.

A fantastic turn out from parents, teachers and Y6 pupils created a memorable atmosphere which the girls were really grateful for. Regardless of the final result, the girls' will forever cherish their achievements and will never forget their time when they had the opportunity to be a real Premier League Star!

The journey came to an end on Friday, when the girls were presented with their Premier League Finalists medals and goodie bags in collective worship by two past pupils and current professional footballers, Tom & Chris Sang. A fantastic way to end an incredible season of girls' football!! Well done girls!

Girls' Kit Presentation

In preparation for the National Finals at Leicester, our girls' team were invited to Anfield as they will be representing LFC at the King Power Stadium. The girls were treated to a pitch side presentation and handed their personalised Liverpool kit that they will be wearing next week. They were also lucky enough to get a photograph with an existing European Cup, access to the players’ changing rooms and tour of the club’s boardroom. A fantastic treat for the girls!!!

U11 Girls' South Cup Final

17th May 2018

The girls played their South Cup Final at Camp Hill this week against Booker Juniors. It was a fantastic game with great football on show. A second half goal from Millie sealed a 1-0 win which was a fully deserved result for the team. Well done to our U11 Girls' South League CHAMPIONS! earning their 3rd trophy of the season. A huge boost for the team who go onto their Premier League Primary Stars National Finals at Leicester City FC next week.

U11 Boys' League Championship Final

11th May 2018

Our boys went unbeaten in the South League this season and have been crowned South League Champions! This gave them qualification into the Championship Final against the North League winners, Rice Lane. The final didn’t go to plan; the boys played well, but the ball didn’t drop for us, seeing us beaten 4-1. The score line did not reflect the match as both teams were evenly matched. With luck not on our side and a disappointing result, we are really proud of our team who were delighted to receive their fourth trophy of the season (we can’t win them all).

U11 Boys' South Cup Final

10th May 2018

It was the Boys' South Cup Final this week against Woolton Primary which took place at Camp Hill Playing Fields. The game did not disappoint with both teams battling it out and displaying some really good football. Two goals from Luke and a goal from Josh secured a 3-1 victory, a fully deserved win for the boys!

What a fantastic achievement to be crowned U11 South Cup CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to all the children who have been involved.

U11 Girls' Liverpool Cup 7 a-side

9th May 2018

The girls tried to replicate the boys' success in the Liverpool Cup 7 a-side Tournament but quickly realised it wasn't going to be as easy as first thought. A slow start in their first match saw the team beaten 3-1, a result the girls haven't been used to this season! Unfortunately, it was too late to qualify for the finals after that result. Heads up girls, there's a South Cup Final and PLPST National Finals still to be played.

U11 Boys Broadgreen League

1st May 2018

Following the success of the girls' football team in the Broadgreen League this season, it was time for the boys to try and push for their League title. The final league match took place against rivals Blackmoor Park who were also unbeaten going into the game. A win or draw would seal victory for Childwall, but at half time they found themselves 3-2 behind. A strong second half performance saw the boys battle for each other and started to display much better football. In the last ten minutes, Childwall produced 3 goals to take all 3 points. The boys had done it ... a whole league season without dropping a single point. A huge well done to our U11 Boys Broadgreen LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!! Well done to all the children who have played in the league this season.

We had a group of Y6 children compete in the Quicksticks City Finals this week following last week’s win at district level. The team played really well in the group stages and progressed through to the semi-finals without losing a game. A great win in the semi-final saw the team reach the final against Lister Junior School who we had previously played and beaten in the group. Two disallowed goals and a hard fought match saw us beaten 1-0 to take second best in the City. Great effort from the team, well done!

27th April 2018

Childwall were at home to a strong Gilmour team in the Semi Final of the South Cup. What a fantastic game of football this cup tie turned out to be. Two really strong teams battled it out for a place in the South Cup Final.

After going a goal down in the first 10 minutes, Childwall had a lot to do. Two fantastic strikes from Luke put the home team ahead and we managed to hold on for the win! Fantastic result for the boys and we are really excited for the Final against Woolton Primary in May! Well done to all of the team.

It was the final Broadgreen League match of the season for the girls, who went into the game against Florence Melly unbeaten. With the opposition 2 points behind us in the league, it was a must win game for the girls if they were to be crowned League Champions!

The match wasn't going to plan when the girls found themselves 1-0 behind, but a quick response from Emily saw the girls’ level. As the girls settled into the game, it was clear that they were on their way to yet another league win. A 5-2 score line secured the final 3 points and the girls were crowned LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!! A phenomenal achievement to win the league without losing a single match. Well done to all the girls who have played in matches this season, you have done everybody proud!!!

Unfortunately, the girls didn't manage to bring back the trophy. A 1-0 defeat to St Vincent de Paul's saw the girls finish as second best. We're really excited for the future of girls' football in our school, well done!!

Our boys didn't concede a single goal and displayed some fantastic football. To our delight, the boys deservedly won the trophy and were crowned Y4 LSSP Football City Champions!

Y6 Boys' Team
Our Y6 boys' team also qualified to play in their City Finals in a slightly different format to the Y4 finals. There were 8 Y6 teams who had qualified for the finals, with two groups of 4 teams being formed. We were one of the top two teams from each group, progressing through to the semi-final after topping the group.

We played a tough semi-final match and after going a goal down, reacted really well to complete a 3-1 come back. Next it was on to the final against Woolton Primary School which saw our toughest opposition of the day. A goal-less draw meant that the tie would be determined by penalties. Luke, Jake and Josh bravely stepped up and scored all of their penalties and a fantastic save from Sam secured the win. Congratulations to our Y6 Boys LSSP Football City Champions!

Fantastic result again from the girls. Well done!!

13th April 2018

It was the final match of the Under 11 Boys South League against St Paschal Baylon at home this week. The boys were determined to keep up their unbeaten run following 4 wins and a draw. Although we took a 2-0 lead early in the first half, a good performance from St Paschal Baylon brought it to 2-2. A disallowed goal, a goal line clearance and the ball hitting the bar made it clear it wasn't to be Childwall's day. The score finished 2-2 and, although the boys were disappointed with the result, they can certainly be proud of keeping their unbeaten record. We now await the league results to see our finishing position. Well done boys!

As a result, the LFC Foundation invited the team to wave the Foundation flags before kick-off at the Legends match and have pitch side seats to watch the game.

Before the match we visited the kid zone and had a few rounds of beat the keeper with LFC Foundation staff, saw some samba dancing and saw the stilted mascots. We then went for lunch in the Kenny Dalglish Stand before donning our LFC Foundation t-shirts and raising the flags proud. We were then treated to the match filled with lots of legends and goals! As one of the top two in the group, we progressed to the finals where we met the superb St Teresa’s. Our excitement rose as we went 1-0 ahead but after a great goal from the opposition, the final score was 1-1 and penalties! The girls held their nerve and WE WON 2-1 in the shoot-out. Our girls will now go on to represent Liverpool FC in the national finals at the King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City, in May. A great all round performance from the girls saw them reach the final, only conceding two goals up to this point. Unfortunately, we lost the final 3-0 following a superstar performance from one of the opposition's players. We were congratulated by the Everton coaches and hailed the 'best all round team' following the defeat, which Mr Hawthorne and the rest of the school were very proud to hear. The children had to perform a body management routine, floor routine and vault sequence in front of judges for an overall score for each team. Both teams were excellent throughout and it was evident the time and effort the children had put in to prepare. Unfortunately, neither of our teams qualified through to the Merseyside Games, with one of our teams just missing out in third place.
Y5&6 Basketball – City Finals
Following an exciting qualifying round at the beginning of January, the children were eager to take part in the City Finals at Archbishop Beck Catholic High School. The competition was very high quality and despite dominating the group games, we struggled to produce the final product. Unfortunately, we didn't make it past the group stages, but nevertheless a great achievement to reach the City Finals, well done!

The close score line in the semi-final didn’t do our performance justice as the boys convincingly cruised through to the final. It was heart breaking when the other team scored a last minute goal to take the final to penalties. A great team spirit and effort from our team, but luck was not with us as we got beaten on sudden death penalties. Mr Hawthorne and the school are so proud of all of the boys, well done to you all.

A special mention to Phoebe who displayed tremendous courage during this event. Phoebe fell just before a relay race and hurt her wrist. Mr Hawthorne was making arrangements to swap her place, but Phoebe insisted that she ran. She did, and the team won the race. We now have Phoebe in a splint whilst her fractured wrist heals! Very courageous and dedicated Phoebe.

The boys again were keen to continue their unbeaten run against St Anne's (Stanley) Primary School and got off to a good start, going 4-0 up within 15 minutes. We took our foot off the gas slightly, allowing the opposition back into the game. A couple more goals in the second half saw the score finish 7-4 to Childwall. Well done again, boys.

Under 11 Boys' Football Match – South League

The boys played their South League match this week at home against Much Woolton Primary School. We found ourselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes despite dominating possession and looking the more threatening side. The boys showed great character, resilience and courage to get back in the game to level the scores at 2-2. Another goal from Much Woolton almost put the match beyond Childwall, before two late goals from Seb to complete his hat-trick, gave Childwall all 3 points. A fantastic game to watch and great effort to the final whistle. Well done boys!

Y5&6 Sports Hall Athletics - City Finals

17th January 2018

It was the Y5&6 Sportshall Athletics City Finals at Toxteth Firefit Hub this week. There were 8 schools that had made the finals and the standard of competition was really high. With 4 places up for grabs to qualify for the Merseyside School Games Finals in March, the children pushed themselves and gave 100% in every event. It was lovely to see the children offering their supports and encouragement to each other, which created a fantastic atmosphere inside the venue.

The children were delighted to find out that they had finished in 4th place in the City and have qualified for the Merseyside School Games! We are also proud of our very own Mr Hawthorne who won the teacher Javelin event and was awarded a medal! Well done to everyone involved, what a great achievement.

Y5&6 Basketball Competition

10th January 2018

We took two teams (Team A & Team B) to represent our school in the Y5&6 Basketball Competition this week, which took place at St Margaret's Academy. It was the children's first ever competitive game, following weeks of hard work and practice in P.E lessons. The teams were split into two separate groups, with the top two teams moving forward into the semi-finals. Whilst both of our teams did not lose a group game, it was Team B that progressed through to the semi-finals as Team A drew all of their games, closely missing out on 3rd place in the group. Team B, however, played a tough semi-final game which ended in a draw which saw the game be determined by a shootout. Each team had 5 free throws, with Noah scoring the decisive basket to win the game. Team B have now qualified for the City Finals in February! Well done to all of the children involved.

As unbeaten winners of League 1, we played Dovedale in the final, who were also unbeaten in League 2. The game finished 0-0 and went on to a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, Dovedale went on to win on penalties, but our girls were fantastic in their first competition which is very promising for the future! Well done girls.

Boys' Premier League Schools Tournament – Everton FC Representatives

1st December 2017

It was the first stage of the PLST for the boys this week, taking place at Prescot Soccer Centre. The tournament was hosted by Everton Football Club and, with the National Finals taking place at the King Power Stadium (home to Leicester City FC) in May, the boys were eager to prove that they had the ability to clear the first hurdle in order to reach the Regional Finals at Finch Farm Training Ground. The boys won all of their group games and progressed through to the quarter finals, comfortably winning the game to see the team reach the semi-finals against a strong Gilmour team.

With two places available at the Regional Finals, a win was crucial for qualification into the next stage at Finch farm. We scored first in the semi-final before conceding a last minute penalty to send the game into a penalty shootout. Luke, Jake and James bravely stepped up to take a penalty and score all three, sending us through to the Regional Finals at Finch Farm in February! Fantastic achievement, boys!

Y5&6 Sportshall Athletics District Finals

30th November 2017

Following our team’s success of winning the South/ South Central District Heat at SFX Sports College 2 weeks ago, it was time to return there for the children to take part in the District Finals, with hope of reaching the City Finals in January. The children had done brilliantly within the race events and were really eager to find out their overall score as they were completely blind to the results of the field events. With the top 4 schools guaranteed a place in the City Finals, the children waited anxiously to find out if they had qualified. We were delighted to find out we had finished in 2nd place overall, just 7 points behind the leaders. We will continue to practice our field and race events in the lead up to the City Finals in January. Fantastic result for the team, well done and good luck for the City Finals!

School Games Gold Award

28th November 2017

We were delighted to welcome Adella Dando, Partnership Manager from the LSSP, to school this week for the presentation of our School Games Gold Award. For the second year running we have achieved Gold for our commitment, engagement and delivery of sport in school. Adella told our children that we are one of the few schools who are present at every competition and tournament and do very well in a wide range of sports across all year groups. She also told us how very lucky we are to have the support from Mrs Mason to allow us to go out and about competing against other schools, to have our teachers who plan their lessons around our competitions, our children who love to play and compete in sports, our parents who travel around Liverpool dropping off and collecting from events and for having Mr Hawthorne who plans all of our sport and PE in school. She told us that not many schools have a Mr Hawthorne, someone who is so dedicated to the school, the children and sports, often giving up his own time to ensure that the children have the opportunity to compete and to be the best in their chosen sports. Mr Hawthorne, you really are the best!

During the first part of the cross country season, Liverpool Primary Cross Country Association have been timing the first ten runners in each of the first 24 races of the Cross Country season. From that mass of data, LPCCA have selected a Boys’ and Girls’ Representative team to compete against the other Merseyside Boroughs at the Cross Challenge event at Sefton Park on Saturday 25th November. Three of our Y6 pupils, Jasmine, Luke and Sebastian, were selected to compete for the City. Unfortunately, Sebastian cannot attend the event due to other commitments.

We wish Jasmine and Luke the best of luck with the race tomorrow, who will be cheered on by Mr Hawthorne and Miss O'Sullivan. A huge congratulations on being selected to represent the City, great achievement. We are very proud of you here at school.

Boys' Premier League Schools Tournament – LFC Representatives

22nd November 2017

As with the Girls' PLPST above, it was also the District Tournament for the boys this week, which again, took place at Anfield Community and Sports Centre. With hopes to represent LFC at the National Finals next year, the boys had to try and clear the first hurdle in order to reach the Regional Finals. The boys found themselves in a tough league with only the winning team progressing through. Following 5 matches the boys had accumulated 12 points, winning 4 and losing 1. Unfortunately, 12 points wasn't enough on this occasion, with Our Lady's Bishop Eton winning the group with 13 points. Great effort from the boys and hard luck in the end. Well done!

Under 11 Boys' Football Match – Broadgreen 7-a-side League

21st November 2017

Unfortunately, our fixture against St Michael's Primary School did not go ahead as they were unable to field a team. However, the children didn't allow this to dampen their spirits as parents allowed the children to stay and play a practice match between themselves. We were awarded a 5-0 win and all 3 points for the fixture.

Girls' Premier League Primary Stars Tournament – LFC Representatives

20th November 2017

The girls made a great start to the tournament, winning all 3 of their league games and progressing through to the Regional Finals in the new year. One step closer to the National Finals, well done girls, great effort.

It was the first round of the Liverpool Echo Shield, with Childwall drawing St Paschal Baylon at home. Following another exciting game with 8 goals scored in total, it was a typical cup game with both teams battling it out. Two early mistakes from Childwall found them 2-1 down after 15 minutes, despite being on top. Two quick goals from Jake found the home team ahead for the first time going in to half time. Another goal from Jake in the second half to complete his hat trick saw Childwall sail through to the second round, with a final score of 5-3. Well done boys.

KS1 Matball Competition

A group of Year 2 children took part in the South Heat of the LSSP Matball Competition at the Toxteth Firefit Hub. Matball is a KS1 version of Netball, with only scoring by passing the ball to the 'mat player' being the only difference. The children have been practising since September and it was visible to see that they were more than ready to compete against other schools. They played 8 games in total, winning all of them and only conceding 3 goals. A fantastic performance from the team, who have now qualified for the City Finals on 29th November. Well done to all of the team.

Gold for Childwall CE
We are delighted to be celebrating the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark Gold Award for the second year running! This shows the involvement and commitment of our children engaging in PE and sports in school and competing in a huge variety of events across the City. Our ethos of competition is about more than just winning, but about children getting involved in physical activity and challenging themselves to achieve their personal best, supporting team mates and building the resilience to get back up after a defeat. As a school we believe that sports plays a crucial role in the contribution to the health and well-being of our children and that the lessons learnt ‘on the field’ translate to wider life, providing extensive skills and strengths.

A huge thanks to Mr Hawthorne and the staff for their hard work delivering PE lessons and the numerous after school sporting clubs that are delivered. The Gold Award puts us amongst the top schools in the country for the sporting opportunities we provide children. What a great start to what will hopefully be a successful sporting year for Childwall.

At Childwall Church of England Primary School we believe that sport plays a crucial role in the contribution to the health and well-being of our children. We also believe that sporting excellence and participation go hand in hand with academic standards, therefore the school is keen to fund a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for children throughout the year which are organised and delivered by our teaching staff and sports coaches.
