Sainsbury's School Games Sports Day

17th July 2017

What a fabulous day we had for our annual Sainsbury’s School Games Day on Monday, with the sun blazing down and it was evident that all spirits were high! Re-scheduling the event due to the weather last week (much to Mr. Hawthorne’s disappointment) was definitely a good idea! Sports Day began with EYFS and KS1 taking part in a range of inclusive activities, trying their best to earn points for their house team in a range of relay style events. KS2 Sports Day followed a similar routine and worked equally well with children demonstrating high levels of skill and enjoyment across a range of activities.

In the afternoon, it was time for our optional competitive races for KS2, with bronze silver and gold medals on offer for the boys and girls finalists across all junior year groups. Lots of children took part in the races this year, demonstrating the importance of healthy competition.

For the first time parents had the opportunity to take part in parent races and we would like to thank the parents that took part in these races. The children absolutely loved watching their parents race and Mr Olushonde took the gold in both the KS1 and KS2 races. It was great to have such a huge uptake for the parents’ race, with such enthusiasm and talent it is sure to be a regular appearance.

Y5&6 Athletics

13th July 2017

Following a very busy year for PE and School Sport in our school, it was the final competition of the academic year in the form of Year 5&6 Athletics City Championships. Traditionally, all athletic events would take place at Wavertree Sports Centre, but not this year. Litherland Sports Park accommodated 19 schools as Wavertree continues to undergo a complete refurbishment. With the changes to the venue in mind, the format of the event was different to previous years, with only 1 scoring athlete per event for both boys and girls. However, this did not stop our prospective athletes competing in the non-scoring events, offering opportunity and experience for future athletic events. Overall our children did extremely well, earning a handful of bronze and silver medals, along with a gold medal for the girls’ 75m sprint. Here is a list of our medal winners:

  • Angel: 1st (75m) City Champion
  • Will: 2nd (Relay)
  • Inez: 2nd (Relay)
  • Ellis: 2nd (Relay)
  • Jessica: 2nd (Relay) & 2nd (135m)
  • Max: 2nd (Relay) & 2nd (75m)
  • Yasmine: 2nd (Relay)
  • Seb: 2nd (Relay)
  • Angel: 2nd (Relay)
  • Ben: 3rd (800m)
  • Inez: 3rd (Long Jump)

A fantastic effort from all of our athletics team saw the boys finish in 4th place and the girls finishing in 2nd place overall. Well done to all of the boys and girls involved!!

Merseyside School Games Finals

3rd July 2017
It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our children to attend the Merseyside School Games Finals yesterday at
Wavertree Sports Centre. Not only one, but three of our school teams qualified for this event following their success at
the city finals several weeks ago. The three teams involved were our Y5&6 boys swimming team, Y3 mixed tennis team
and Y5&6 mixed quad kids’ athletics team. Following the opening ceremony, it was time for the children to compete!
The level of competition was of the highest quality and all of our children stood up to the challenge.

Our Y3 tennis team played on and off for almost 4 hours, displaying some magnificent skill and technique. The majority
of their opponents were Y4 children; nevertheless the team worked hard to finish in 5th place overall, well done!!

The Y5&6 boys swimming team teamed up with the Y6 girls’ team from Booker Avenue to represent Liverpool in the
swim gala. Following some amazing races, our team finished in 1st place to take gold!!

Finally, it was the Y5&6 mixed athletics team to compete, with each athlete taking part in five different athletic events.
With all of the teams scored combined, it gave our team a fantastic final score, finishing in 3rd place overall and earning
the bronze medal. A great team effort from everyone, well done!!

What a great end to a fantastic sporting year at Childwall CE (although we are still out and about competing next week).
A huge thank you to Mr Hawthorne who has worked tirelessly with the children all year.

Our Y5&6 cricket team took part in the LSSP City Finals on Monday. A glorious day in the sunshine saw the boys play some great cricket. If was time for the Y6 children to return to school to catch the coach to PGL, so some additional Y5s stepped up the challenge. Winning our next game saw us finish 3rd in the City. An excellent effort to all involved.

After a break to watch the other school and time to have a run around on the pitch the final against Plantation Primary and Nursery School kicked off. didn't qualify for the semi-finals, our team had a really enjoyable experience and as they are all year 5
children, I am sure they will look forward to trying again next year! Well done everyone.

Y5&6 Dodgeball Competition

22nd September 2016

We took two teams to Broadgreen International School this week to compete in the South Liverpool Dodgeball
tournament. We were pleased to see one of our teams progress through to the City Finals, with our other team
finishing in 5th place. I have heard a rumour that the team have asked that ‘Coach Igglesden’ doesn’t take them next
time. I think Ms Igglesden’s natural competitive spirit was a bit too much on the dodgeball court! Well done to all the
children involved!

Funded Sporting Opportunities

At Childwall Church of England Primary School we believe that sport plays a crucial role in the contribution to the health and well-being of our children. We also believe that sporting excellence and participation go hand in hand with academic standards, therefore the school is keen to fund a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for children throughout the year which are organised and delivered by our teaching staff and sports coaches. In order to support children to participate in 3 hours of sporting activity per week, opportunities will be available for each year group to participate in at least one sporting activity between September 2016 and July 2017.
